A Bit of Springtime From Treasures to Your Home.

Here are some great shots from the home of Treasures Antique Mall customer LaVern from South County.

She has been coming into the shop for 10 years.  These pics are of her great room.  She has purchased about half of the pastel 40s and 50s attached saucer flower pots at Treasures.

She says all three of these shelves are also from Treasures, as are the three piece art set.  We love seeing what customers do with the goodies they buy from us.

If you are interested in sharing your decor or projects, please email pictures to patula10@aol.com with your first name and town.  Tell us which items in the pictures were purchased at Treasures.  We would love it if you would share with us!!

Look for future customer home tours!! This should be fun!

Thanks for taking a look at this perfectly happy spring time decor!

Booth Remodels AND a New Dealer ... Come See

Just a few shots of some reworked booths.

This is a new dealer, about a third of the way down the south wall.  Pretty cool and retro stuff, eh?
These cool ceramic deer fit so well with the 50's theme, I thought I would add them, even though they are in dealer 800's booth, the first booth on the south wall.
And last of all just a bit of spring in an antique bath pitcher from our dealer number #17 .... on a day like today (piles of snow outside) its nice to think that daisies will be blooming before we know it ... At least I like to think so.

Guess What Happened at the Antique Mall Today?

Today at Treasures Antiques was fun as usual.  Our great customers sharing their projects with us, our dealers dropping in to bring more antique goodness.   One thing that happened today, however, really stands out.  This is what happened to one of our customers, Karen.
As it turns out, she and her husband, for one of their only visits to the antique mall Saturday, ran across this portrait.  The woman looked familiar and it bugged her all weekend.  It finally struck her that it was an ancestor, of hers.  She brought in a picture of this several generations removed great grandmother, Elizabeth Partidge Tillotson Whiting, and we compared them and concluded the following.

Background: In the late 1800's cabinet cards were common.  They were those photographs that came on a cardboard back board with the photographers advertising info on them.  So people who wanted larger portraits to hang would take their cabinet cards to a charcoal artist who would do a rendering from the picture.  It is my opinion that these are two charcoal drawings by two different charcoal artists of the same cabinet card. Notice that the dress collar, scarf inside the dress collar and the bar pin across the button placket are all the same. The artist on the left (the photo in the book that Karen owns) was clearly the better artist and included the details of her neck rather than just drawing her clothing to her chin, but I feel confident that they are from the same cabinet card. So honestly what are the chances that Karen would find an 'original' ancestral portrait at a local antique store.  Pretty cool eh?  Congrats Karen, come and see us again.  We may not have other ancestral portraits from your family, but we do have lots and lots of vintage and antique goodies!

Steampunk = Fun Junk at Treasures South

So our dealers are seeing the light .... steampunk is really becoming main steam.  They have been bringing in lots of great industrial stuff, like the mail boxes, gages, Victorian fencing and even a fabulous gold scale in its original glass case!!

Kathy, Keith and I put them together today for a sort of industrial chic decor space.

Kathy said "You know there is a lot of antique style in Steam Punk, but it feels modern too!"  That's because the Steampunk style focuses on classic Victorian style (antiques) with the twist,  mixing in the cutting edge technology of the day, (modern feel) such as steam engines, newly invented gadgets and the dream of space travel, as found in early science fiction,  then to top it all off, there is a great love of Victorian apparel adapted for modern life.  I am sure no self respecting Victorian would have been 'caught dead'  in a 'steampunked' top hat, but a modern steampunker wouldn't miss a chance to wear his.  Its a fun style, take some time and get acquainted.

A New Years Resolution Suggestion!!

Looking for an area to improve yourself this year (I mean since you are so very near perfect already, its got to be hard to find something, right?)  Well allow me to suggest taking your personal presentation up a notch.  We have  several adorable 20 something customers who come in dressed in period dress.  They always look amazing, and lift my mood just by coming in.

We have a lot of period clothing in the store ranging from pioneer, Victorian, Roaring Twenties and the WWII era to hippy goodies.  There are 6 different dealers who regularly bring in vintage and antique clothing.

I asked this cute customer if she would mind letting me take her picture, she looks amazing!!  Doesn't she look like a war bride?  And her attention to detail is wonderful. (Where does one find seamed nylons?)
Come on in and take a look at our period finery, you might just get hooked, and you certainly won't regret it.
